Why do people not believe in Jesus teaching about Communion?

Jesus teaching in the Book of St. John, who is the only gospel that does not report the first communion bit reports Jesus teaching about the reality and content of the last supper, where St. John directly quotes Jesus saying that if you do not eat His Flesh and drink His Blood, not only will you not have eternal life in you, but you will not see the Kingdom of Heaven. Since Jesus was not teaching a parable many disciples left him saying the teaching is too hard. Jesus asks the Apostles, “Are you going to leave me too?” Matthew, Mark and Luke all record Jesus saying, This is my flesh, this is my blood. Jesus does not say this bread represents My Flesh, or this Wine represents My Blood. My real question to you all is why do you deceive yourselves on this the most Holy of the Sacraments?

Isn’t it kind of ironic that the church that prides itself on taking the bible metamorphically, decides to take this one verse literally?
