why is it so many virgin mary paintings important to the roman culture?

I went to the museum and saw a bunch of virgin mary and baby jesus portraits in the roman culture art. but how come it was popular and imporant beside the fact that god was important

They were important to the Roman CATHOLIC culture …..not ancient Roman culture.

This is actually kind of a touchy subject.
Christianity came from the Jewish culture.
Paul opened up a Roman Christan Church in Rome …. away from a Jewish religious historical background point of view.
So the Roman Christians were missing a lot.
People sometimes would compare one religious figure with another more well known religious figure.
And sometimes things would get confused.
Romans didn’t exactly understand a religion that was completely run by MALES.
All male, with no female side.
The Virgin Mary kind of became that female religious figure.
There is a lot of misconceptions about Mary, especially about the “Immaculate Conception”.
I was an adult before I realized that it wasn’t Jesus that was born in “Immaculate Conception” but his mother Mary.
