Litha, the summer solstice, or Midsummer is a pagan holiday celebrated between June 19 22. This is the day when the sun is its height, therefore causing them to be the longest day of the year. From there, the sun will begin its descent and the nights will gradually begin to develop in.

It is also known as cross quarter day, which makes a minor holiday for pagans, Wiccans and witches and is among its neighbors Beltane celebrations (May Day) and Lughnassadh. But with such potential for good weather and a soft, warm evening that can withstand Litha charms of a celebration!

Traditionally, Litha is the time of year to harvest your crops as they were expected to be particularly happy with magical qualities and the real powers in the evening or the day of Litha / Midsummer Night's. However, preserve the power of your performance and as an offering to the gods and goddesses it was considered necessary to allow the roots or stems of the plant intact.

At Litha, is also a fire festival, we thought you might attract prosperity by jumping over a bonfire (a bit like Beltane celebrations) that were lit to ward off evil spirits that were believed to roam freely on this night. In fact, the veil between the natural and supernatural worlds were considered at their thinnest and therefore for additional protection, torches were carried after dark and at the end of the celebrations.

These associations have been bad, unfortunately passed on witches Then too, as it became the time of year when they had to be seen on the way to meetings with other evil creatures!

But because of the heady and haunting call of warm nights, Litha is of course a time for fertility rites. This is influenced by the role in the festival cycle of the God and Goddess. At this time the Goddess is the new child, having met and become married to the god Sun at Beltane. So, Litha, with Beltane, has become a very popular event for marriages (known as the fast hand) and to celebrate new life.

While the form does not have celebrations and how can you represent yourself? It is traditional for girls and women to wear garlands of flowers with St. John's Wort is the most popular. custom colors include yellow and gold and bronze to reflect the sun.

Herbs Litha are of wormwood, chamomile, lavender, fennel, St. John's wort, vervain and wormwood that can be expressed and sprinkled on your campfire if you're dancing or rituals around the fire, or if you simply want a quiet moment of contemplation and make a wish.

It is also a time of year to present gifts to the God and Goddess both honor and thank goodness you received during the summer months. It would have been for a good harvest in the days of old but there is still much to be grateful to our modern era – even if just for the simple pleasure of being able to sit outside and feel the sun on your face! You can leave gifts of food such as honey, more precious tokens of the nature strips or coins, or many gems leave like lapis lazuli, tiger eye or jade, which all have associations with the spirit of Litha. Leave your job in a place that is special to you and especially in a place of natural beauty as a pond area or your garden wild, burning a little cinnamon or sandalwood incense as you exit.
