Gospel Thomas Jesus Vegetarian

Why did Jesus followers not go to James the Just, his brother as he told them to do ?
Verse 12 of the Thomas gospels says; The disciples said to Jesus, “We know that you are going to leave us. Who will be our leader? Jesus said to them, “No matter where you are you go to James the Just, for whose sake heaven and earth came into being.” This says Jesus had picked his brother to replace him in his teachings. It is written that James was a vegetarian “Essene”
James was the brother of Jesus and thus his natural successor after Jesus died. James died in 66 and everything fell apart culminating in the destruction of the Temple in 70. The Jewish movement begun by Jesus essentially died out at the same time. Rabbinic Judaism survived because it focused on prayer and study rather than trying to immediately restore the Temple or resist the Romans. Paul’s Christianity which is what all modern mainstream Christianities descend from survived because Paul was a Roman to the Romans and his followers ultimately learned to get along with Rome.
