Christian celebration of Christ’s Birth; April or december?

Christmas or “the holiday season” has drifted significantly away from christianity, due to this fact, why do christians still insist that it be a celebration of Christ’s birth? Would it not be sensible to commerate Jesus’ birth on, what is thought to be his more likely birthday, April 17th 6bce.? this would then let “the holiday season” revert to a more secular festival, and would give Christians a month of festivities with the celebrations of Jesus’ birth and death ( pesach/passover)
Scripture specifically says that the Shepherds were out in the fields tending their sheep as it was the “Spring Lambing Time” and sheep are totally helpless just as a newborn child (the Lamb of God)!!!

Christmas is actually a Mithraic tradition.
