Where is my husband?
My husband just passed away 3 weeks ago..and I’m trying to search through my beliefs to understand where he is. I’m a Catholic and we believe that spirits of loved ones who accepted Jesus go to heaven..and as a nun I visited at the bookstore the other day told me “they are watching us.”
I’ve searched the bible and cannot find where it states that loved ones are already in heaven with God waiting for us to pass on too and that they are close to our hearts. Do we just say this for comfort? Are they asleep waiting? Plz help me understand where my husband is..he’s the 1st death I deal with so I’m very lost.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I hope our responses only help and do no upset you more. People can be very insensitive on here and I hope I only help and don’t contribute to your pain. I have struggled with the same issue. Our culture teaches us that our dead loved ones are in heaven with God immediately after death, and these ideas have permeated the church. But when I go back to the bible I don’t find this anywhere. When I ask Christians, the only verse they can site is when Jesus is on the cross and tells the forgiven thief “Today you will be with me in paradise.” But if you read through multiple passages from the apostle Paul in his letters and preaching and the book of Revelation and what Jesus tells people in the gospels, over and over the dead are referred to as “sleeping” until the resurrection when all the dead will be raised on the Day of Judgement. Then those who are raised in Christ will go to eternal life and the others will be thrown into the lake of fire (also referred to as the second death) . I even find many of the hymns we sing, back this up and yet the same Christians who have sung these hymns for years (and hopefully read these bible passages) still believe they will go instantly to heaven on their physical death. Now I do believe it will seem as though it is instantaneous, because being “asleep” or physically dead, we will have no sense of time passing. The Day of Judgment will seem to be almost immediate. I will look up the bible passages for you and add them soon. No, I don’t believe my dead loved ones are watching everything I do here on earth. As many of the old headstones say R.I.P.(Rest In Peace) I believe they are.

The End Times: In the Words of Jesus [VHS] $0.49 The premise of this video, that the end of the world is near and the cataclysmic events foretold in prophecies of Christ are nearly upon us, is portrayed in suitably dramatic fashion. But however emotional the presentation, this video is inevitably in the position of preaching to the converted. Those who are skeptical of interpretations of the Book of Revelation may find it all interesting but wil… |
