The BEST “Jesus Christ Superstar” vocalist?
The original cast album from 1970 had Ian Gillian from Deep Purple singing the part of Christ. Since then, Ted Neeley has been in the 1973 film and is still doing the show to this day.
Who is better???
Ian Gillan is the best, I have the original cast cd with him on vocals. But I think Neely was probably the best choice for the movie version which I was fortunate to see when it came out in I think 1973.

No Sympathy for the Devil: Christian Pop Music and the Transformation of American Evangelicalism $15.98 In this cultural history of evangelical Christianity and popular music, David Stowe demonstrates how mainstream rock of the 1960s and 1970s has influenced conservative evangelical Christianity through the development of Christian pop music. For an earlier generation, the idea of combining conservative Christianity with rock–and its connotations of nonreligious, if not antireligious, attitudes–ma… |

The Golden Age Of Custom Album Packaging 1970 to 1984 – Ernie Cefalu, Drew Struzan, and The Fine Art Of Album Packaging $0.99 What would you call a reality-altering, career-forming experience that allowed you, and the people that you loved around you, to touch the world with what you did best; leaving a recognizable mark; and not even realizing the impact of your accomplishment until 36 years later? I know what I would call it…“my life.” Pacific Eye & Ear for me was like the child I never had. It was an intensely t… |

The Golden Age Of Custom Album Packaging 1970 to 1984 – The Story Behind The Jesus Christ Superstar Album $0.99 In the beginning… is where my story begins so it’s the perfect place to start. The Jesus Christ Superstar album was my first cover that had major notoriety and such huge global success right from the start. The only other album cover that I had done before Superstar was part of a promotion that I created for International Paper Corporation, which led me to creating two of the most iconic image… |

Jesus Christ Superstar (Original London Concept Recording) $14.24 It may not have been the first rock opera (the Who’s Tommy was released in 1969), but Jesus Christ Superstar was a legendary album long before it hit the stage, thanks to Tim Rice’s compelling book and lyrics combined with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s irresistible music. Telling the story of the last days of Christ from the point of view of Judas (Murray Head), the still-unmatched original cast also star… |

Jesus Christ Superstar: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Album $14.39 This 1974 Norman Jewison film may have been a critical misstep, but some fans actually preferred it to Broadway’s rock spectacle. The thing is, Jesus Christ Superstar was first introduced as a two-disc rock opera, not unlike the Who’s Tommy, as it even scored several Top 40 hits. While no set matches the original, it’s still hard to go wrong with the music, no matter what the source. This also inc… |
