Chicago (the Musical) Tickets- a Show Full of Razzle Dazzle

If you are looking for a dark comedy with all the right ingredients, search no farther than Chicago (The Musical) tickets. The city of Chicago during the 1920s was a hotbed for music, maidens and murder and a combustible setting for any drama. Chicago (The Musical) captures the essence of the era with incredible music, racy costumes and a top-notch cast.

The story starts with two characters, Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart. Kelly is a vaudeville performer who is on top of the Chicago jazz scene. Kelly shared an act with her sister but that partnership ended tumultuously when Kelly found her husband and sister sleeping together and killed them both. The married Roxie Hart is a vaudeville wannabe who is dating a man who loves the night life. Her husband almost takes the blame for killing him until he realizes his wife is having an affair.

Both Kelly and Hart are sent to Cook County Jail along with a host of murderous mistresses. They share more than just a correctional facility, however, as Billy Flynn is both girls’ lawyer. Flynn throws himself into Hart’s defense and makes his client famous in the process. Her newfound fame has Kelly fuming, and the two are at odds. The show features Michelle DeJean as Roxie Hart and Nancy Lemenager and Velma Kelly. DeJean has been in other productions of Chicago along with productions like West Side Story and Jesus Christ Superstar. Lemenager has been in Broadway productions before like Kiss Me Kate and Guys and Dolls. Jeff McCarthy plays Billy Flynn and is no stranger to Broadway with roles in shows like Beauty and the Beast, city of Angels, Lockstock in Urinetown and Les Miserables. The cast is rounded out with Carol Woods as Mama Morton, Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart and D. Micciche as Mary Sunshine.

This Tony Award-winning production should surely be on top of the list of any theater buff. John Kander wrote the music with hits like “Razzle Dazzle,” “All That Jazz” and “Cell Block Tango.” Fred Ebb wrote the lyrics and co-wrote the book with Bob Fosse. The musical is based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins, who based the play on her stories as a reporter for the Chicago Tribune. It may not have been the first rock opera (the Who’s Tommy was released in 1969), but Jesus Christ Superstar was a legendary album long before it hit the stage, thanks to Tim Rice’s compelling book and lyrics combined with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s irresistible music. Telling the story of the last days of Christ from the point of view of Judas (Murray Head), the still-unmatched original cast also star…

If you’ve ever wanted to hear Jack Nicholson sing (or try to) or marvel at the sight of Ann-Margret drunkenly cavorting in a cascade of baked beans, Tommy is the movie you’ve been waiting for. As it turns out, the Who’s brilliant rock opera is sublimely matched to director Ken Russell’s penchant for cinematic excess, and this 1975 production finds Russell at the peak of his filmmaking audacity. It…

Jesus was a pretty popular guy in New York in 1971; as the ersatz star of both Godspell and Jesus Christ Superstar. If Superstar was a little dark, Godspell was positively frothy; and its portrayal of Jesus as a hippie clown was part of its goofy charm. Another part was Stephen Schwartz’s nifty score; a little naive and dated, but also as hummable as anything in history. Slap this in the CD player…
