I’m 19, is it wierd for me to like these bands?

Ok so like my sister is a huge hippie, and she thinks the 60’s are great, and when I was a kid i shared my bedroom with her. She always used to listen to stuff like The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, The Who, Country Joe and the Fish (pretty much everyone who was at Woodstock), the Beatles, the soundtrack from Jesus Christ Superstar and lots of other mad stuff like that. She had like a HUGE record collection (proper vinyl and all)

So like I grew up and I never listened to like the Spice Girls, or boy bands and stuff like that, I mostly just listned to the stuff that my sister liked.
I like other music too, like heavy metal and punk rock, and i’ve been listening to more rap/hiphop stuff lately, and I love Johnny Cash and like Bo Diddley, and David Bowie, and 80’s pop.
But I don’t really listen to modern pop, and I don’t really like most new rock and stuff.

Anyway my peeps think i’m weird. Someone should tell them that i’m not. lol.

No, not at all. I’m 18 and I LOVE the Beatles (and the later solo material), David Bowie, the Doors, Jimi Hendrix, the Rolling Stones, the Who, etc. I also love contemporary bands and artists, such as Radiohead (my favorite band), Muse, Coldplay, and Beck.

Good music is good music. Entertaining music is entertaining music. It doesn’t matter if it’s from the ’20s, ’60s, or yesterday. If it’s well-played and entertains you, go for it.

In a way, isn’t it “weirder” to *just* listen to what’s NEW and POPULAR? You know, all these people our age who are fixated on the Jonas Brothers right now (“They’re so hot!,” “They’re the best band ever!”), but will completely forget them when the next corporate-pushed, flavor-of-the-month band or artist comes along — suddenly the new band or artist will be “so hot!” and “the best EVER.” At least we have music-taste convictions and consistency, right? lol
