Jesus Fish Meaning

What’s with the Jesus fish.?
I know jesus did do quite a bit of fishing but primarily he was a carpenter so shouldn’t there be a plank of wood for jesus ( I am not trying to be mean)
It was an early Symbol used to identify Fellow Christians without the risk of Persecution!
