A Labor of Love: The Creation Story is a Call to Fellowship and Community with the Creator Himself, Jesus Christ

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth for one single purpose, that He might fellowship with His children. And God is faithful, for it is by God Himself that we were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord (1 Corinthians 1:9). Recall the story:

On Day 1, God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” And with these Words the entire spiritual realm came into existence.

On Day 2, God said, ‘Let there be a firmament in the midst of the water.’ And with these Words the atmosphere of the earth was created and formed, known as the first heaven; and all of outer space was created and formed, known as the second heaven. And so these, along with the third heaven created and fully formed on Day One, completed the realm of heaven and earth.

On Day 3, God said, ‘Let the water which is under the heaven be collected into one place, and let the dry land appear.’ And so the earth was brought forth from the waters. And ‘Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth.’ And so the vegetation of the earth was created, but not yet formed, across the earth.

On Day 4, God said, ‘Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth.’ And so all of outer space was filled with the sun, moon and stars. And this addition brought forth the forming of the vegetation throughout all the seas in their fully mature forms.

On Day 5, God said, ‘Let the waters bring forth living moving creatures having life, and winged flying creatures flying above the earth in the firmament of heaven.’ And so the waters were filled with the living moving creatures in their fully mature forms, and the fowl were created, but not yet formed.

On Day 6, God said, ‘Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind, quadrupeds and creeping things and wild beasts of the earth according to their kind.’ And so all the living moving creatures of the earth were created, but not yet formed. And God said, ‘Let us make man according to our image and likeness, and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the flying creatures of heaven, and over the cattle and all the earth, and over all the creeping things that creep on the earth.’ And so man was created, but not yet formed, to rule and reign over the earth and all creation.

On Day 7, ‘the heavens and the earth were finished, and the whole world of them. And God finished on the sixth day His works which He made, and He rested on the seventh day from all His works which He made. And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it, He rested from all His works which He began to do.’

Now consider our premise, that this account is a historically accurate summation of God’s “Labor of Love,” that “The Creation Story is a Call to Fellowship and Community with the Creator Himself, Jesus Christ.” Consider that He even built into His creation a means to bring forth an Indestructible Way unto this fellowship. What was that means, why the Incarnation! God Himself becoming man through the Christ and fulfilling the old and already done away with Saturday Sabbath and bringing forth the new and Indestructible Resurrection Day Sabbath—the true Sabbath of the new creation. And prayerfully consider this simple thought: God is indeed faithful; He has already come and called us unto the fellowship of His Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

Now, are you answering that call with your labor? Was it not after the first week of creation, that God continued His labor and proceeded to form that portion of the creation that was yet unformed during the first week? Did not God continue His labor when we read the words: ‘And God (Jesus Christ) formed the man of dust of the earth, and breathed upon his face the breath of life, and the man became a living soul.’ Are we not the pinnacle of all creation, the very reason for God’s initial and continuing labor?

I respectfully submit that we indeed are, and in response, that we must needs consider the “labor” of all mankind this Labor Day weekend. Does our labor focus on bringing all men to that fellowship with Jesus Christ which the living God so desires? Is our labor noble in that its underlying purpose is so grounded? If we pray on these things, and ask God that we might in fellowship as a community of believers in the deity of Jesus Christ bring all mankind’s labors to bear for this one purpose, just think the Christendom we could hand down to our children! On this weekend where we honor the working men and women across the land, let’s remember the original One who first did labor—and the noble purpose of all those who continue to labor after His example.

May the Lord and God of all Creation—Jesus Christ, bless us all this Labor Day weekend.

And may you join the noble cause of sharing this message of God’s labor of love…
