Jesus Grave Clothes Folded

Why did Jesus fold the napkin?

The Gospel of John (20:7) tells us that the napkin, which was placed over the face of Jesus, was not just thrown aside like the grave clothes.

The Bible takes an entire verse to tell us that the napkin was neatly folded, and was placed separate from the grave clothes.

This was to signify to his disciples that he would return…

These disciples, less than a weekend ago, ran away and hid for their lives…They were afraid and did not understand what was happening…But the event you mention was POWERFUL enough to lead into FAITH…notice the NEXT verses:

Joh 20:8 Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.
Joh 20:9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.

WHATEVER they saw in that grave, the Bible says that “they saw, and believed….NOT knowing the scripture”

I’m SO happy that this scripture speaks to another Christian in such an exciting way…I have a Jewish friend who tells me that it would be CUSTOMARY for the Master (of any house), during the Passover feast, if he had to leave the table for business, yet he was NOT FINISHED, and DID NOT wish for the servants to “clean up” his place, he would signify by HIS FOLDED NAPKIN that he WOULD return…I would think this perfectly logical if it were done TODAY…

This action was sufficient to inspire faith in disciples who were in FEAR FOR THEIR LIVES…VERY intriguing scripture, very INSPIRING…The NEXT TIME there is excitement like this within Chritianity will probably be the rapture…
