Jesus and Nazareth: In his hometown finally been discovered?

On December 21, 2009, the Israel Antiquities Authority announced a discovery Archaeological which can cause red faces for those who doubted the New Testament historical accuracy. For the first time in history, archaeologists cite data from the first century city of Nazareth, the hometown of Jesus' reputation.

In addition, this discovery has the support of scientists, archaeologist Stephen Pfann, president of the University of the Holy Land, said: "This is the only witness we have of this region that we shows that the walls and floors were like inside of Nazareth, in the first century. "

Although Nazareth is now a thriving Arab city of 65,000 in northern Israel, some researchers have found that there was not during the life of Jesus. For example, the Encyclopedia Biblica, 1899, said: "It is very doubtful whether the beautiful mountain village of Nazareth is truly the home of Jesus. "

In 2006, American Atheist Press has published a book by René Salm entitled The Myth of Nazareth. The author sums up his argument before this recent discovery. He writes: "What should matter to all Christians, however, is the inescapable fact that the evangelists invented the basic element in the history of cosmic redemption. The proof is now at hand that Jesus of Nazareth, "a longtime icon of Western civilization, is false. "

Faced with this new discovery, Salm still defends the findings in his book. However, the first century shards of clay discovered Nazareth, the site seems to undermine his theory that Jesus' birthplace is mythical.

Archaeologists have also discovered other relics in the recent period which confirm the existence of the New Testament characters like Pilate and Caiaphas (see "Jesus was a real person? " http://www.y-jesus.com/bornid_1.php ).

What If important Nazareth

So what is the big story of Nazareth, you might ask? According to a recent article by Frank Zindler on the American Atheists "Website, the question of whether or not the city existed in the first century is a huge deal.

In examining the myth of Nazareth, Zindler says the reason for its large audience atheist. Zindler made his point clear, written

"If it could be demonstrated conclusively that" Nazareth did not exist when Jesus and his family are supposed to have lived there … You get my point intended. "He also cites" archaeological excavation of the birthplace of Jesus it is absolutely certain, or at least as certain as any scientific argument can not be the place- now called Nazareth has not been inhabited since about 730 BC until shortly after 70 CE. This is more bad a mere inconvenience for those seeking historical facts in the Gospels. "

Salm also assert their importance by writing: "If the tradition has invented his hometown, then who can put faith in other aspects of the story of Jesus, his virgin birth, miracles, crucifixion, or resurrection? Were these also invented? What, in other words, is left in the Gospels that the average Christian can not be sure? What's left of his faith? "

Salm concludes his article by American Atheists article with these provocative words: Celebrate, free thinkers … Christianity as we know it may finally be at an end! "

In other words, if not Nazareth exist in the first century the Gospels of the New Testament, then how can we know if something in the Gospels is historically accurate (see "The Gospel truth?" href = "> http://www.y-jesus.com/jesusdoc_1.php" http://www.y-jesus.com/jesusdoc_1.php)?

But this coin has two sides. Indeed, where archaeologists have discovered the first century Nazareth, what do say about the reliability of the Gospel accounts of Jesus? Christians are discovering as an affirmation of their beliefs.

All this point to an even more important: Who is the real Jesus of Nazareth? While there are many opinions. Some say it was simply a great moral teacher. Others believe he was a man who has made a legend by his disciples. Historians we say it changed the world more than any other person.
