Jesus Miracles Explained

Atheists–how do you explain away all the “miracles” of Jesus/God?

*Speaking in tongues
*Healing
*Walking on water
*Turning water into wine
*Multiplying of fish and bread, etc…

Do you deny it’s existence all together, assume it was exaggerated, or take the new age approach and say ‘anyone’ can do all of these things if they use the right part of their brain?

I am just curious–I am atheist too. I am looking for a thorough answer Thanks.

What miracles? The Koran says that Mohamed spoke to god in the desert. Just because some people wrote it doesn’t mean it happened that way. Ancient people in the times the Bible were written passed down oral legends that were often embellished to make them carry more weight and following. There were numerous itinerant preachers traveling about preaching to people, some of them also claiming to be the messiah. Who do you think got a following, those who just said “hey, I had this idea…” or ones that instilled fear and awe as well as a message people wanted to hear? I also think the stories were recorded over time and changed as time went on just like any urban legend today. The earliest writings don’t account for much of Jesus’s early life, then we get stories that don’t quite match up in details. I don’t think there is any good reason to take at face value these events literally happened as now recorded more than the miraculous claims that are found in any religion.

This said there are many magicians today who can perform some of these things as tricks. Chris Angel has done walking on water for example. I don’t necessarily think though that they were performed as tricks then so much as they were just embellished stories. Either way I don’t find them reason to believe in actual supernatural events or gods.
