The night of betrayal and the thirty pieces of silver

Over the centuries, Christianity has portrayed Judas as the traitor – the disciple who took the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests, and the traitor with qualities such as greed, hypocrisy and infidelity. There is no denying the fact that it was he who "gave Jesus to the priests of that night at Calvary. We must remember that Jesus chose Judas be one of his disciples. And it was the will of God that the Scriptures be fulfilled. Jesus is clearly presented as one who is in control his destiny, and nothing on earth can remove this spiritual atmosphere and confidence.

The name Judas is evil in the Christian history – German law prohibits even the parents give a child named Judas! According to the four Gospels, Judas was one of the twelve disciples of Jesus and the group's treasurer. A wonder why Judas is mentioned in the literature more than any other disciples, especially when it was least mentioned in the Bible.

Jesus said to Judas: "What you are about to do, do quickly," "surrender, on the night of betrayal, was, according to the Scriptures – an act of God and, therefore, if the person who made the will of God is ridiculed, scorned and demonized? When Judas found that his teacher has been sentenced, he was remorseful and tried to make money. As the priests refused to accept it, Judas threw the thirty pieces of silver and hanged himself. One might say here that Judas truly believed that his master was too powerful to be captured by the high priests and, therefore, it was a broken heart what happened.

He said, during the Last Supper: "I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me who eats with me. The son of man goeth, as it is written about him. (Mark14: 21). "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani, Jesus cried at the ninth hour, which means "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? "As his mind, the curtain of the temple torn in two from top to bottom, the earth shook and the distribution of rocks. (Matt 27: 46.51). "Do not worry, a young man in white robes said that the three women took the spices to the tomb on the third day, early in the morning, "You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified. He is risen! (Mark16: 6). This is the story of the agony in Gethsemane on Good Friday and the ecstasy that followed with the resurrection of Jesus, the only Son of God. One could argue the logic of the call Good Friday, the day Jesus was crucified: His death was the pardon of all and it is "good news".

We all celebrated the millennium has long been groomed for the big occasion, but do we know why we had the celebration? Jesus of Nazareth who was born 2,000 years ago came to die for the people, to bridge the gap between man and God. Jesus said: "Man does not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God" (Matt4: 4). Over the centuries, Christians have also used Lent as an opportunity to improve their physical, mental and spiritual health. Although Christians differ in their attitude towards most will agree that fasting of Lent is a time for positive thinking and perhaps see it as a replacement therapy or anti spiritual toxins! It should not be very religious to give up something for Lent – stop smoking, drinking and a conscious effort to treat other kindly would like a boost to all his well-being.

Christianity accepts Jesus as the only Son of God and it is important to remember that other religions accept Jesus in other versions. Muslims regard Jesus as a prophet and messenger of Allah, many Jews to find a teacher, Hindus respect him as a person who reaches the highest level of consciousness and Buddhists regard him as a figure of compassion.

There were many paintings based on the Last Supper and the betrayal of Judas. The most famous of them is the "Last Supper" by Leonardo Da Vinci is the scene where Jesus told his disciples that one of them would betray him. When Judas was gone, Jesus said: "Now the Son of Man glorified and God is glorified in him. " (John13: 27, 31). Jesus said: "But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled who say it must happen. "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in his name among all nations. " (Luke24: 45-47).

Muslims regard Jesus as a prophet and messenger Allah, many Jews find him a teacher, Hindus respect him as a person who reaches the highest level of consciousness and Buddhists consider a figure of compassion. Hopefully we learn to be tolerant of his fellows and understanding of other religions that we can live in harmony, without having to resort to violence to resolve our different views and opinions. The suffering of Jesus was helped by the action of Judas, the original traitor, who fulfilled the prophecies. Perhaps we should spare a moment here to Judas who believed in the power of Jesus, whose action without the prophecies have not been met.
