Jesus Saves Mission Utah

How can I make some friends?
I just moved to Cali from Utah some months back. I really don’t have any friends here. In Utah I had a lot of friends, but I graduated High school and so I don’t have that going for me, I am a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon) which a lot of people don’t like, and I can’t go to college yet because I am preparing on a mission before that, and need to save my money for that, but I am not leaving until Oct/Nov. I also don’t have a car, so I can’t go out. I don’t drink, smoke, drugs, premaritals, or anything that my church is against- which is hard to find 18 year olds who aren’t into that, and live in my little town. Advice?
My advice is to talk to people like when you are eating at a restaurant or going to see a movie just start a conversation. The person may not talk to you but at least you know you tried.
