How can I sing a soprano part?

At my next school mass my chorus teacher is letting me sing the song Jesus Saves by Tim Hughes. Im singing it an octave higher obviously soprano. Im an alto I can hit some notes but not all.

You should only be singing in a range that you are comfortable and relaxed with, anything that tightens your throat or brings your adam’s apple/top of larynx (less predominant in women) up is not the right thing to do. You have to really focus on making sure everything in your throat to chin area is very relaxed.

I would suggest that you do the lip rolls in musical scales that you are comfortable with.

Lip Rolls are very good to increase your range if you feel that you must sing soprano for the part…. although I would advise against singing that high, unless you’re comfortable singing that high. Maybe the lip rolls will help you get to the notes that you can’t reach. If not, I’d ask the teacher if you can sing in a range that you’re comfortable with instead of soprano. Maybe she’ll let you do mezzo-soprano.

***no yelling/screaming

drink lots of room temperature water

take breaths whenever possible

********record yourself every day to see if there are any improvements and to analyze your singing
